Grey Herons sighted on Trefriw Trail 3

The grey heron we saw while walking on Trefriw Trail 3 is actually nesting in one of the trees across the road. And, yes, that means there's a pair of them. They are beautiful to look at although they sound rather cacophonic. Wow, can't wait for little grey herons to hatch. I don't know how many eggs they lay at any one given time but it seems they nest in colonies. So far I've spotted only two.

Their favourite spots are wetland marshes, rivers and lakes, etc. Well, we are lucky to have a river close by. I've seen them a few times but walking Dumpling in sheep country means I've to keep her on the lead and keep a close eye on her. When my husband comes home I'll have more freedom to pursue my interest in wildlife photography. At the moment, all I can do is lookout for them and enjoy seeing them in flight or standing tall among the sheep.

It's funny how I'm so tuned in to nature that I sometimes don't see or hear people talking to me. Annwen, who lives in one of the houses that flank part of the cob, complained to me just a couple of days ago that I completely ignored her as she said hello to me. She was in the treehouse shouting out to me - and I was looking up the treetops. Now what was Annwen doing up in a treehouse? Spotting grey herons, or, cute men walking their dogs maybe. I feel terrible because I didn't even notice her. I found out later her house is near the heron's nest and I think I might have been guilty of not paying attention to anyone or anything remotely non-animal.

Anyways, we made up over tea and coke at hers. Annwen is a sweet lady in possession of a great sense of humour. She's lucky to live so close to the herons' nest.
